That’s a fascinating piece of tool history! Masterpiece Tools certainly made an impression with its high-end imported tools and its lavish catalog, drawing attention from collectors and craftsmen alike. The business and its owner, Robert Major, were even featured in a New York Times article on September 8, 1983, titled Japanese Artistry in Carpenter’s Tools.
By 1989, the company had closed, and Major had relocated to Hawaii, where he passed away that same year. His legacy, however, lives on through the tools and catalogs that remain highly sought after by enthusiasts.
