Description
The Bridge City Tool Works CT-12 Bench Plane is an exceptional, precision-crafted tool designed for superior performance and collectibility. Manufactured in 2004 as a limited edition, this plane features a 40-degree pitch, enhancing its ability to produce smooth cuts. This particular piece is numbered 2710 and includes factory initials G.E.P., adding further provenance to its history.
The CT-12 introduces an innovative articulated iron cap (patent in process), which distinguishes it from traditional iron cap or double iron assemblies. This uniquely hinged mechanism pre-loads the cutting edge with a force exceeding any resistance encountered during use, ensuring smoother, more controlled cutting. Additionally, the mass spanning the entire bevel of the iron deadens vibration, which not only improves cutting precision but also prolongs edge life.
This articulated iron cap also serves as an ideal chip breaker, effectively reducing grain tear-out while eliminating the inconvenience of disassembling a double iron for sharpening. Thanks to its thoughtful design, no shavings will wedge under the chip breaker, ensuring uninterrupted performance.
Encased in a walnut box, this unused CT-12 remains in pristine conditionโan impeccable addition for collectors and woodworking enthusiasts alike. While largely untouched, the brass components show a few tiny spots of tarnish, a minor cosmetic detail that does not affect function but attests to its age and authenticity
