Very Nice Stanley No. 10½ Carriage Makers Rabbet Plane – Type 1, Adjustable Mouth, “PAT. APL’D” Iron
A rare early example of Stanley’s No. 10½ Carriage Makers Rabbet Plane, this Type 1 model features the original adjustable mouth, a “PAT. APL’D” marked iron, and the often-missing washer under the front knob—a detail collectors will appreciate. With its open-sided body, this plane allows the cutter to reach the full width of the sole, making it ideal for rabbeting and carriage work.
- Type 1 Features: Early production with adjustable throat and low knob profile
- Iron: Original “PAT. APL’D” cutter—indicative of pre-patent manufacturing, circa 1885–1888
- Rosewood Tote & Knob: Beautifully figured and structurally sound—classic Stanley elegance
- Washer Detail: Includes the often-lost washer beneath the front knob, a subtle but important original feature
- Japanning: Worn but honest—consistent with age and use, adds vintage character
- Functionality: Ideal for rabbeting, joinery, and layout work where full-width cutting is essential
A rare and desirable early Stanley—ready to work or display with pride.
