A superb and highly desirable John Booth & Sons boxwood spokeshave, made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and boldly marked “Premium Awarded by Phila & New York Institutes.” This award stamp is a wonderful piece of 19th‑century tool history, reflecting the period when manufacturers proudly showcased medals and honors earned at regional industrial exhibitions.
This example is beautifully preserved, with rich, clean boxwood and crisp markings. The spokeshave measures 10 1/2″ overall and carries a 2″ wide cutter, making it both a functional tool and a standout collectible. Booth & Sons spokeshaves with award markings are not common, and examples in this condition are especially hard to find
