Amazing, Minty, Hard‑to‑Find Leon Robbins 10 1/2″ Smoothing Plane — 1 7/8″ Iron

An amazing, minty example of the Leon Robbins 10 1/2″ smoothing plane, fitted with its correct 1 7/8″ wide iron. Robbins planes are already scarce, but this particular model is exceptionally hard to find — and despite having sold many Robbins planes over the years, this is the first one of this model we have seen. That says everything.

The plane is crisp, beautifully made, and shows the classic Robbins craftsmanship: clean lines, tight mouth, elegant proportions, and that unmistakable small‑maker quality that sets his work apart. The surfaces are bright, the iron is full length, and the overall presentation is truly minty.

• Maker: Leon Robbins, founder of Crown Plane Co., Bath,
Leon Robbins’ planes are revered for their sculptural beauty and functional excellence. His passing in 2007 marked the end of an era, and his tools have only grown in desirability since. This matched pair is the first of its kind I’ve seen in decades, and would be a crown jewel in any serious collection.
