Bailey Tool Co. (Woonsocket, RI) ShortโVersion Box Scraper
1870 Joseph Bailey Patent โข CamโAction Locking Lever (Shown in PTAMPIA I, Fig. 64A)
A scarce Bailey Tool Co. shortโversion box scraper, made in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and built under Joseph Baileyโs 1870 patent. This is one of the most interesting early Bailey specialty toolsโcompact, mechanically clever, and highly sought after by collectors of preโStanley Bailey work.
This example features the distinctive camโaction locking lever, the same mechanism illustrated in PTAMPIA I, Figure 64A, and a hallmark of Baileyโs inventive approach to toolmaking. The shortโbody configuration is far less common than the longer pattern and is prized for its rarity and elegant proportions.
A fine, historically significant scraper from the early Bailey Tool Co. periodโan essential piece for anyone collecting patented American woodworking tools.
