A scarce Bailey Tool Co. short‑version box scraper, made in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and built under Joseph Bailey’s 1870 patent. This is one of the most interesting early Bailey specialty tools—compact, mechanically clever, and highly sought after by collectors of pre‑Stanley Bailey work.
This example features the distinctive cam‑action locking lever, the same mechanism illustrated in PTAMPIA I, Figure 64A, and a hallmark of Bailey’s inventive approach to toolmaking. The short‑body configuration is far less common than the longer pattern and is prized for its rarity and elegant proportions.
