Description
A rare and exceptionally clean Andrew B. Lipsey โLipseyโs Patentโ nut wrench, patented July 31, 1877, one of the most distinctive early American patented wrench designs. This example carries the desirable โC.T. Co.โ marking .
At 6 inches long, it has that compact, elegant mechanical form associated with Lipseyโs design. The condition is outstanding: crisp surfaces, strong markings, and none of the heavy wear typically seen on these early wrenches. As noted by Ken Cope, production is attributed to the Roper Caloric Engine Manufacturing Company of New York City, though additional makers may have supplied other markets, which helps explain the marking variations.
A scarce, wellโpreserved, and highly collectible early patented wrenchโan especially fine example of the nonโLipseyโmarked variant.
