Elijah Bassett, a plane maker from Norton, Massachusetts, crafted wooden molding planes in the late 18th century. These tools are considered rare and significant pieces of American history. Bassett’s planes are marked with his name, and it’s believed he made them around 1780. His work is highly valued among collectors, with only a limited number of planes known to exist. Bassett’s contributions to toolmaking are particularly notable, as he was also a Revolutionary War soldier, adding a unique historical dimension to his creations.
