Description

Rare set of 8 Diobsud hand‑forged carving tools in their original box .

An exceptional and hard‑to‑find grouping from one of the most respected American makers of high‑carbon carving tools. Several of these chisels appear unused, retaining crisp edges, clean surfaces, and the bright lamination lines typical of Diobsud’s traditional forging. Some chisels show light pitting, a natural result of the high‑carbon steel content and long storage, but nothing that affects their integrity or performance.

Diobsud Forge, based in Washington State, earned a reputation for producing some of the finest hand‑forged carving tools in the United States during the late 20th century. Their smiths worked in small batches, using traditional Japanese‑influenced forging methods — high‑carbon steel laminated to softer backing steel, individually shaped, hardened, and tempered by hand. Production was extremely limited, and each tool was made start‑to‑finish by a single craftsman, giving Diobsud chisels a distinctive feel and balance that serious carvers immediately recognize. When the forge closed, availability dropped to almost nothing, and surviving tools became highly sought after by both users and collectors.

Individual Diobsud chisels, when they surface, often sell for around $100 each. A complete boxed set of eight is almost never seen and represents outstanding value for anyone who appreciates true hand‑forged American carving tools.
