Great Stanley No. 68 Rabbet Spokeshave โ Sweetheart Era, 1911โ1939
A scarce and well-preserved example of the Stanley No. 68 rabbet spokeshave, produced during the Sweetheart era (1911โ1939). This model features a square-bottomed sole and a straight iron, designed specifically for cutting rabbets and working into cornersโideal for coachmaking, pattern work, or curved joinery.
The cutter is marked with the Sweetheart logo, Unlike typical spokeshaves, the No. 68 has a machined flat on both sides, allowing it to ride against a template or edge, effectively acting as a depth stop. The design was patented May 16, 1911, and the tool was priced significantly higher than standard shaves in its day, reflecting its specialized function and limited production.
A rare and functional piece for the serious user or collector of Stanleyโs more unusual offerings.
