The HP-5 is suitable for use on all extremely hard woods like cocobolo, ebony, most other exotics and in all cases where grain switchback is obvious.
The body of the HP-5 is milled from a solid brass billet and features an adjustable throat, very important for effective use. The iron is made from A-2 tool steel, cryogenically treated, hardened to Rc 60-62 and lapped to a mirror finish. The HP-5 is ready to use out of the box.
Typical uses for the HP-5 include edge work on stock under 1/2″ thick, chamfers and important facet details. When used properly, the HP-5 will create edges facets and chamfers that are perfect where the HP-3 will begin to lift grain. Small box makers, luthiers, fly rod makers, case makers, furniture makers, toy makers and others who work with small stock or fine details will greatly appreciate the benefits of the HP-5.
