Very Nice Standard Rule Co. (Unionville, CT) No. 15 Carpenterโs Sliding Rule
With Gunterโs Scale & Drafting Scales
A very nice example of the Standard Rule Co. No. 15, a twoโfoot carpenterโs sliding rule produced in Unionville, Connecticut before the company merged into the later ChapinโStephens lineage. The No. 15 is one of their more desirable models, equipped with both Gunterโs scale and drafting scales, giving it a level of mathematical and layout capability not found on ordinary carpenterโs rules.
Standard Rule Co. pieces are significantly less common than their Stanley or ChapinโStephens counterparts, and the No. 15 stands out for its combination of a sliding center section, Gunterโs scale, and drafting scales. These multiโscale rules were produced in modest quantities and often saw heavy use, making clean examples like this one increasingly scarce.
A strong addition to any collection of early American rules, especially for those who appreciate Connecticutโmade measuring instruments with technical sophistication.
