Stunning Pair of Signed & Numbered Dragon Song Planes – Ebony & Brass – Custom Walnut Box
An extraordinary offering: a matched pair of Dragon Song planes, each signed and individually numbered by artisan Dan O’Connor, renowned for his limited production of high-end custom planes in the late 20th century. These tools were originally sold through the Garrett Wade catalog, and only 60–70 were ever made, making them exceptionally rare and collectible.
🔹 Materials & Craftsmanship
- Bodies crafted from ebony, offering deep luster and exceptional stability
- Brass blade holders and hardware, precision-machined and beautifully patinated
- Aluminum bronze soles, commercially heat-treated for durability
- O6 or A2 steel blades, professionally hardened and honed
- Housed in a custom walnut presentation box, lined and fitted for protection and display
🔹 Dimensions & Weight
- Larger plane: 11″ long, weighs 5 pounds 4 ounces
- Smaller plane: 6″ long, weighs 2 pounds 3 ounces
These substantial weights reflect the density of the ebony and the quality of the brass and bronze components—each tool feels as solid as it looks.
🔹 Design & Legacy
Each plane is a testament to O’Connor’s dedication to form and function, blending Japanese-inspired aesthetics with Western toolmaking traditions. These were designed not only to perform flawlessly but to be treasured as heirloom pieces.
🔹 Condition
Fine with light use. The walnut box is pristine, and both planes retain their original finish and edge integrity.
