A scarce and highly collectible No. 2 size plane, produced by Van Camp Iron & Hardware of Indianapolis, Indiana, between c.1910-1920. Van Camp was one of the legendary names in the wholesale hardware industry, serving the Midwest for over a century with high-quality products that helped build a nation.
Founded in 1876 by Cortland Van Camp, the company initially specialized in blacksmithing supplies under the name Hanson-Van Camp before evolving into Van Camp Hardware & Iron Company by 1888. This No. 2 size plane exemplifies the firm’s commitment to quality and innovation.
This example is 7 inches long, matching the dimensions of a traditional No. 2 hand plane, and features the proper Van Camp iron, ensuring authenticity and historical significance. Van Camp planes were manufactured by Union, which continued production even after Stanley acquired Union in 1920.
