Offered here is an extraordinary matched set of 10 gouge chisels by Miki Inaoka, one of Japan’s most respected postwar toolmakers. Produced in the 1980s, these chisels are forged to the highest standards and came directly from the bench of a world-famous luthier in Boiling Springs, PA—a provenance that speaks volumes about their quality and performance.

Nine of the chisels measure approximately 9 inches in length, with widths of 1¼”, 1″, ¾”, ⅝”, ½”, ⅜”, ¼”, 5⁄16″, and ⅛”. The tenth chisel is 10½ inches long and ½” wide, offering a bit of extra reach and mass. Each chisel is scary sharp and ready for the finest work.

Handles are turned from dense Japanese hardwood and show only light signs of careful use. The balance, sweep variety, and edge retention make this set ideal for fine carving, lutherie, or restoration work.
